Dr. Omar Dahir Mohamud is a highly accomplished public health professional with over a decade of experience in governance, education, research, and advocacy, specializing in occupational safety, environmental health, and policy development. As the Executive Director of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Somalia, he has played a pivotal role in shaping and advancing occupational safety standards in Somalia. 

Dr. Omar is also an experienced academic, having lectured at leading Somali universities for nearly a decade, teaching subjects including Occupational Health, Environmental Impact Assessment, and Health Policy. In addition, he has served in significant leadership roles, such as Chairman of the Somali Public Health Association and a member of the National Health Professional Council (NHPC). Dr. Omar’s career is marked by his involvement in policy development for Somalia’s labor sector, capacity-building initiatives, and international collaboration efforts. 

He has contributed to research on environmental health, maternal health, and occupational safety, with several publications in these fields. Dr. Omar holds an MSc in Occupational Health from Thammasat University in Thailand, and he is currently pursuing a PhD in Public Health at the University of Khartoum, Sudan. His enduring passion for improving health outcomes and fostering safe workplaces continues to drive his impactful contributions to Somalia’s labor and public health sectors.
